Sorø Municipality in Eastern Zealand moves forward with its plan to establish an approximately 200 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) facility to enrich the local energy supply mix. The new solar park is a welcome step on the country’s journey to reduce its carbon footprint through affordable renewable energy solutions. Adding solar power to the prevalent wind power installations already at hand, may also help optimise electrical grid behaviour. In addition, the new solar park can provide alternative income sources to the landowners and the rural community.
The client appointed COWI to explore the potential capacity that could be installed on an approximately 240 hectares piece of land in Sorø in Eastern Zealand. The job included exploring a potential number of configurations and completing the preliminary design of the chosen configuration, as well as producing a detailed PVsyst (solar engineering software) output with a complex shadow scene and CAPEX/OPEX estimations. The scope of the project also included the parallel development of a buried 5 km-long interconnection high-voltage line.
